Xenophobia: South African Artists Kick Against Inclusion Of Burna Boy At The 'Africa Unite' Concert.

Some musicians in South Africa under the aegis of Tshwane Collective have sent a petition to the minister of arts and culture, kicking against the inclusion of Burna Boy in the 'Africa Unite' concert scheduled for 23 and 24 November.
The Africans Unite concerts, a response to recent xenophobia in the country is organised by Play Network Africa, based in Nigeria, in partnership with Phambili Media SA and appears to enjoy the support of South Africa’s department of arts and culture.
It will feature, along with Burna Boy, artistes such as Kwesa and Jidenna. The first concert will hold at Hillcrest Quarry in Cape Town on 23 November and the second at Sun Arena, Time Square in Pretoria.
However, the Tshwane Collective questioned the exclusion of local artists and Burna Boy’s invitation to perform at the concert, accusing the African Giant of inciting hatred against South Africa, in the wake of the xenophobic attacks.
“Whoever may have deemed that the country needs a PR exercise of this nature would have done so largely as a result of the callous, misleading and unwarranted incitement by this very artist. Not only did he spread falsehoods through his extensive platform, he literally incited violence and hate.
He further promised to inflict his own violence on locals before giving your government an ultimatum which you seem to have received and succumbed to”, the group said in the letter to Nathi Mthethwa, minister of art and culture.
The department of culture has however distanced itself from the concert and said that it’s logo had been used “erroneously” on posters advertising the event, Times Live reported.
“The Department of Sports, Arts and Culture wishes to dispel the untrue information currently being spread on social media, that it is funding the Africans Unite Concert featuring the artist known as Burna Boy. It is unfortunate that the department’s logo was erroneously used on the poster advertising the event,” spokesperson Asanda Magaqa told TshisaLIVE.
Asanda said that the department had not allocated or granted funding for the event. “The department wishes to reiterate that it has not allocated or granted any funding to the event in question and any reports to the contrary are entirely false.”

Banky W
Singer and filmmaker, Bankole Wellington, aka Banky W, during an interview, revealed how he was asked to sing by some armed robbers.
Speaking at ‘Monday Night Live’, Banky said;
“I recall that after a certain December 31 night ‘crossover’ service, I was on my way to the island after dropping a friend. On getting to where my friends were, I stopped and alighted. The next thing I felt was a slap at my face. Lo and behold, I saw four armed robbers. I opted to give them the key of my rickety car. They slapped me again, saying, ‘Who wants your car’? They told me to move to the back seat of the car while they used my car to rob others. They took my money, jewellery, phone and cap.”
“At one point, one of the armed robbers told the others, ‘Let us take him to Ajah and kill him.’ I started begging them not to kill me.  I told them I am a singer. They then asked me to tell them the songs I had recorded. When I mentioned ‘Ebute Metta’ ‘Capable’ and others, the robbers expressed surprise saying, ‘So you are Mr Capable? Sing for us.’ That was the scariest free show I ever did in my life. I had to sing to armed robber.

Burna Boy Drops Visuals To "Omo" Off The African Giant Album.

Multiple award-winning afro-fusion musician, Burna Boy, who recently had a sold-out concert at the SSE Wembley Arena in London, has released the visuals to his single “Omo” off the African Giant Album.
When he released the audio in July, it was clear that a regular, run-of-the-mill video wouldn’t do the song justice.

Burna Boy shows his versatility on the “Mr. Kleb” produced single, as he eulogizes an independent lady who is driven to make good money and doesn’t waste time on shenanigans. Her independent nature hints that she spares no time for the opposite sex, which is a part Burna is “scheming”, “plotting” and “planning” to change.

The “Clarence Peters” directed visual opens with a raw psychedelic touch that creates a distinct effect on the optic nerve. Added to this is the sensational touch the images of beautiful, well-endowed ladies in the ‘Giant Club’ had on the video as they give Burna, who is bent on getting ‘Omo’ on his side, a run for his money.

Watch the video to “Omo” below:
Recently, the African Giant bagged the ‘Best African Act’ at the just concluded MTV Europe Music Awards which held in Seville, Spain. So far, it has been quite a good year for Burna Boy.

Full Moon on November 12, Solar eclipse set for December 26

Annular solar eclipse expected on Thursday, December 26 CREDIT: eclipseportal.com
*Mercury will pass in front of Sun on Nov 11 as astronomers given last chance to glimpse rare celestial event
Have you seen the Moon lately? When was the last time you observed the skies? The Moon and the stars are playing some interesting games. Nigeria and most parts of the world will witness another series of astronomical spectacles between today and the end of the year.Top on the list are: an annular solar eclipse on Thursday, December 26; Full Moon on Tuesday, November 12; and planet Mercury passes across the face of the Sun on Monday, November 11.
According to a report published in timeanddate.com, a solar eclipse is just like a regular new moon where the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun. However, a solar eclipse is more powerful because the Moon darkens the Sun. Solar Eclipse December 2019 is an annular solar eclipse so not all of the Sun will be darkened. In this type of partial eclipse, the apparent diameter of the Moon is smaller than the Sun’s, leaving a ring of light around the eclipsed Sun.
The new moon on December 26, 2019, is a partial solar eclipse so its effects last for six months instead of the normal four weeks. The December 26 solar eclipse marks the end of the eclipse cycle that began with the solar eclipse on July 2, 2019. It also marks the beginning of a new cycle lasting about six months until the lunar eclipse on June 5, 2020. The Solar Eclipse December 2019 astrology will compliment themes found in the lunar eclipse on January 10, 2020.
The total annular eclipse lasts for three minutes and 40 seconds, and will be visible in the Middle East, Southern India, South East Asia some parts of Australia. Also, according to farmersalmanac.com, the next full moon will occur on November 12 at 8:34 AM ET and will be a Beaver Moon. Depending on the winter solstice, it is also known as the Frost Moon or Mourning Moon. The eleventh full moon of 2019, the November’s moon, was dubbed the Frost Moon by early Native Americans because the winter frosts typically began during this month.
Also, astronomers are in for a rare treat next week, when the planet Mercury passes across the face of the Sun.According to the report published by Daily Mail UK, this rare celestial event only happens about 13 times per century, so you would not get another chance to see it until 2032 – 13 years from now. The transit of Mercury happens because it is one of only two planets in our solar system that orbit the sun closer than Earth – the other one being Venus. On most of its orbits, Mercury passes above or below the Sun as seen from Earth.
Occasionally, however, the orbits of Earth and Mercury line up in such a way that Mercury passes directly between the Earth and the Sun.When this happens, Mercury is visible from Earth as a tiny dot – about 0.5 per cent of the diameter of the sun itself. “The sky will put on a stellar show on November 11, 2019, as Mercury crosses in front of the Sun,” said United States National Aeronautic Space Agency (NASA).“From our perspective on Earth, we can only ever see Mercury and Venus cross in front of, or transit, the Sun, so it’s a rare event you won’t want to miss!”
With the right safety equipment, viewers nearly everywhere on Earth will be able to see the tiny dark spot moving slowly across the disk of the Sun.The transit starts at 11:35 GMT (04:35 PST) on Monday, November 11, and will last for about 5.5 hours, so there will be plenty of time to catch the show.Viewers in certain areas, such as the West Coast of the United States, will not be able to see it until the Sun is visible in the sky.
At approximately 15:20 GMT (08.20 PST), Mercury will be as close as it is going to get to the centre of the Sun. The transit will still be underway as the sun sets in the UK an hour later. The transit of Mercury (pictured) starts at 11:35 GMT (04:35 PST) on Monday, November 11, and will last for about 5.5 hours, so there will be plenty of time to catch the show.
Unlike a transit of Venus, where the planet appears large enough to be seen with the naked eye, Mercury is so small that you’ll need binoculars or a telescope with a Sun filter to see it.However, looking at the Sun directly or through a telescope without proper protection can lead to serious and permanent vision damage, so make sure you use a solar filter.
How to watch the transit of Mercury? The Daily Mail UK report noted: “Dedicated solar telescope. These telescopes have the filter built in and it is irremovable, making it a particularly safe option. “Coronado telescopes, for example, allow to you see the sun in hydrogen-alpha, which means that it will appear orange/red.
“Ordinary telescope with filter: If you already own a telescope then you can buy filters that fit onto the front end. “You should always make sure the filter is attached securely and hold it up to a light bulb before attaching, to check for any damage, such as pinholes, in order to protect your eyes.“Projection through refracting telescope: An alternative to a solar filter is to project an image of the Sun through your telescope onto a piece of white card.
Add a cardboard shade collar to the telescope itself to mask the rest of the Sun’s glare. Use apertures of less than four inches to prevent overheating.Projection through your binoculars: You can use a similar projection method with binoculars. Attach them to a photographic tripod and cover one of the apertures with a lens cap. You’ll find the card will need to be quite close to the binocular eyepiece.
How to film the transit: Given that transits of Mercury are reasonably rare many observers are keen to capture the moment as a keepsake. Luckily, photographic equipment for astronomy has become relatively cheap and widely available and so this is pretty easy to do, particularly if you are already viewing the transit through a filtered telescope.

10 Types Of People You Will Meet In A Public Bus In Lagos

Lagos can be an interesting place to live. Lagos is a home to 15million people and its been estimate that at least 3 million cars and buses pile the road regularly. Among these sets of cars and buses will you see the exotic, the classy, those that oppress with their cars (shout-out to all those celebrities who buy 20 million cars) and also you find the public buses where an average man falls into. These buses can be didved into 2 different part, the government owned (LAGBUS, BRT) and the Union/Individual owned (Molue, Danfo, NURTW). Boarding commercial buses can be fun at times especially when you are having a bored moment at work. My friend once said anytime he is not feeling too well, he boards Molue bus and he will be praying there should be a topic of discussion or that two passengers just pick on their selves, it may be fun and it maybe otherwise. We bring to you types of people you will meet when you board a public transport using Lagos as a case study..
1. The Sleepers: These set of people sleep practically all the journey. Some even go to the extent of snoring. My uncle fall into this category, bros can sleep anywhere even when we went to board ferry, bros still sleep.. Tuwale baba!!!
2. The Talkatives: These are the political pundits and football analysts. They can quote how much was recovered from Osborne towers, Messi’s salary in a year, how Buhari refused to had over power to Osibanjo etc. The talkatives raise discussions on different issues. They can talk for hours uninterrupted.
3. The Music Freaks: These ones plug in their ear- piece as soon as the journey begins. They listen to music non-stop until they alight from the vehicle.
4. The Gluttons: The gluttons buy food and drinks at the slightest opportunity. Some can even eat all
through the journey. They buy fruits, walnuts, drinks chips, gala e.t.c
5. The Cautioners: These set of people always caution the driver whenever he is over- speeding. Women are mostly found in this category especially the Yorubas. They keep saying “life has no duplicate”
6. The Fat People (mostly ladies): When Jesus said in the scriptures “Occupy till I come”, these are the people Jesus is talking to. They occupy virtually all the space on the seat. They are so annoying. They can even squeeze life out of you. You can only curse them silently!
7. The Thieves: These set of people are what the Bible talked about in John 10:10. The thieves steal from unsuspecting passengers. They steal money and phones. These set of people are the most dangerous in the bus.
8. The Preachers/ Prayer warriors: God bless your soul you board a bus with the Lord’s Chosen folks or people from CAC, you are done for it. They lead prayers immediately the journey begins. They also preach and share tracts.
9. The Gentle: These sets of people sit all by themself throughout the journey. They either talk or join in the discussion in the bus, let the driver speed from Lagos to Togo, OYO is your name.
10. Quarrelsome: These sets can best be called the jesters, they pick on people to make jokes, God bless you you replicate, they turn in to a shouting match. I experienced this lately, a guy picked on virtually people in the bus including the driver, a lady just picked on him about the quality of his, na so kasala burst oo, it took the intervention of the passengers for this guy not to slap the lady, its that bad.
Having said all and done, which category do you fall into? No lie oo
